Time Card Hours Worked Formula

How this mathematical and clinical model is calculated

Net Work Hours = (Clock Out 1 - Clock In 1) + (Clock Out 2 - Clock In 2) - Unpaid Breaks

Elapsed gross time is calculated by determining the difference in minutes between clock-in and clock-out timestamps. If a shift crosses midnight, 24 hours (1,440 minutes) is automatically added to the clock-out timestamp. Total unpaid break minutes are deducted, and the remaining net minutes are converted to hours, minutes, and decimal hours (Minutes ÷ 60).

Step-by-Step Calculation Process:

1

Record the exact morning clock-in and clock-out times.

2

Enter any unpaid morning or lunch break duration in minutes.

3

If working a split shift or second shift, enter the afternoon clock-in and clock-out times.

4

Deduct all unpaid meal intervals from the combined gross elapsed duration.

5

Convert net minutes to decimal hours by dividing minutes by 60 and rounding to two decimal places.
